If you are considering moving to the area, here are some key facts about the two schools in Brossac Village.

Are there buses that go to the schools?
There is a bus service from the surrounding villages. Children come every day from Brossac, Passirac, Chillac, Chàtignac, Sainte-Souligne, Guizengeard and Bermeuil.

What is the school year like in Brossac?
From the beginning of September until the beginning of July. There are short holidays in October and February, with the normal festive breaks (Christmas and Easter).

Are there extracurricular activities?
There are football and tennis clubs both within the village. However, to join the football club you must be at least 6 years old. In Chalais (the nearest town, 10km away) there are also theatre and music clubs after school and on weekends. The schoolteachers can advise on the most popular and most recommended.

How can I enrol my child at one of these schools?
Go to the Mairie (in the town centre) with information showing where you live locally, along with documentary evidence. The village mayor will then issue a letter of acceptance which the Headmistress will review. The pupil can then be enrolled. Children must have all four compulsory vaccines before attending.

My child is in secondary school. Does Brossac have anything to offer?
The nearest secondary school is 10km away in the town of Chalais. There are also two in Barbezieux, 18km away. There is a daily bus service.

As of 2018, there are 42 pupils enrolled in school. They are separated into two classes; one from 2 to 4-year olds, and another for 4-and-5 year olds. A teacher and teaching assistant are present in each class.
What do the students study at Alfred de Vigny?
The children learn a foundation for the subjects they'll go on to study at the primary school. Basic French grammar, counting exercises and introductions to English, History, Geography, Art, etc.

A development of the foundations laid in the infants school. The most focused subjects are French and Maths, but a variety of subjects are studied in equal parts, similar to the English primary school system.
